In 1998, Master Weaver Stuart Holding began crafting exquisite textiles on two restored antique looms in his "working weaving museum"—an old barn where visitors could witness his craft. These pieces, initially sold in his wife Janet's shop, gained such appreciation that Mungo expanded to a nearby dairy-turned-mill.
Today, with four South African stores and international presence, Mungo has grown from one artisan to a family of over 100. Their 2017 purpose-built mill—deliberately transparent to visitors—stands near Stuart's original barn, embodying their unwavering commitment to beautiful design, community care, and environmental stewardship.
In 2020, Mungo became South Africa's first GOTS-certified weaving mill, while those original antique looms continue their steady rhythm of creation.
